The Ministry of Justice consultation – Punishment and Reform: Effective Probation Services – is currently underway. The consultation is due to end on 22 June 2012
We would encourage Re-Unite stakeholders to provide responses to the consultation. Part of the focus of the consultation is how to provide improved services, such as housing and rehabilitation support, to keep offenders returning to crime.
The Re-Unite model is proving successful and is being replicated across England. We need to deliver the message that Re-Unite offers practical solutions to the issues raised in the consultation. Housing is a fundamental issue when it comes to reoffending rates but the partnerships we are developing between women’s centres, housing associations and probation services are vital to ensuring women offenders, in particularly mothers, keep away from crime and instead build a positive future for their children.
